When it comes to kicking off those shoes after a long day at work, there’s no better way to create a cosy atmosphere than lighting an amazing candle. The warm glow, the flickering light and the delicious aromas simply can’t be beaten.
At Aubrey Bay, we have developed natural candles that are perfectly crafted for your home. If you’ve not already switched to natural candles, don’t wait any longer. There are so many benefits of natural candles meaning that you’ll never want to go back to those nasty, paraffin-based ones. Here’s our rundown on the benefits of natural candles
Why are Natural Candles Better?
With natural candles, you won’t be risking exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.
Traditionally, candles have been sold in the UK with some base ingredients that increase toxin levels when burnt. What causes toxins to be released into the air when a candle is burnt? Here are a few:
Paraffin candles are made from petroleum, which is a nonrenewable source that contains carcinogenic substances.
These substances may be released into the air while burning.
Organic waxes, such as soy wax or coconut wax, are an easy way to avoid risking exposure to such chemicals.
Some candle makers use metal core wicks. These wicks have been identified to release lead and zinc into the air. This can then be inhaled and also deposited on floors, walls and soft furnishings. Metal-cored wicks are therefore not a good choice for candles.
Wicks made from natural materials such as cotton, hemp, or wood are a better option than metal-cored wicks.
Natural Candles Burn Longer
Because natural waxes have a lower melting point, they last longer. This means you get more value money and you’ll be able to enjoy your favourite candles for much longer.
From a safety aspect, soy wax is the better choice because it has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means less risk of burns should you accidentally spill any melted wax on your skin.
Natural Candles Produce Less Soot
Natural candles burn cleaner. You won’t see as much black soot gathering on your candle or creeping onto surfaces in your home.
Natural Candle Wax is Biodegradable
Natural wax is biodegradable, so it’s easier to clean spills and re-use empty candle containers.
If we look at soy wax, for example, this wax is derived from the soybean.
Soy wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns to a solid at room temperature. Soy wax contains nothing artificial which makes it a better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax.

Although natural candles are becoming more readily available in larger stores, there are many artisans, like ourselves, at Aubrey Bay, creating all-natural candles. Consider supporting us rather than the big-boy shops as there are so many benefits to buying handmade products.
